The ISO 11731 standard, published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), includes culture methods for the isolation of legionella and test methods for determining the estimation of their number in water samples. These methods can be applied to any water sample, including potable, industrial, waste and natural waters. These methods can be used, for example, for water-related matrices such as biofilms, sediments and the like. However, not all legionella species are suitable for culture. Therefore, the methods described in this document cannot be applied to all legionella species.

In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 11731 Water quality – Legionella count.
The bacterium isolated in the first outbreak of Legionnaires' disease in 1976 was named legionella pneumophila. This bacterium is commonly found in natural and artificial aquatic environments, soils, and compost. Over 60 species of legionella have been described. About 30 of these species infect humans. Monitoring of Legionella bacteria is important for public health to identify risky environmental sources such as hot and cold water distribution systems in buildings and spa pools, dental units and air conditioners.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Legionella counting (ISO 11731) services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
