The ISO 7899 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), consists of the following sections under the main heading of "Water quality - Detection and counting of intestinal enterococci":

The ISO 7899-1 standard describes a miniature test method for the detection and enumeration of main intestinal enterococci in surface and wastewater by inoculation in a liquid medium. This method is applied to all kinds of surface and wastewater, especially those rich in suspended matter. This method is not suitable for drinking water and other water types with a guide number of less than 100 per 15 ml.
For the purposes of this standard, it refers to microorganisms that can grow aerobically at 44 degrees and hydrolyze 2,3,5-methylumbelliferyl-beta-D-glucoside in the presence of thallium acetate, nalidixic acid and 4-triphenyltetrazolium chloride in the specified liquid medium.
The purpose of this standard is to list the major intestinal enterococci (i.e. e. faecalis, e. faecium, e. durans and e. hirae) that frequently occur in the feces of humans and homeothermic animals. Other fecal enterococcus species (i.e. e. avium, e. cecorum, e. columbae and e. gallinarum and streptococcus bovis/equinus strains) may occasionally be included, but are rarely seen in environmental samples. Their recovery tends to be low.
The ISO 7899-2 standard describes a test method for the detection and enumeration of intestinal enterococci in water by membrane filtration. This standard is specifically for the examination of drinking water, water from swimming pools and other disinfected or clean water. However, the method is applicable to all types of water except where large amounts of suspended matter or many interfering microorganisms are present. It is particularly suitable for examining large volumes of water containing only a few intestinal enterococci.
For the purposes of this standard, intestinal enterococci refer to bacteria capable of reducing 44-triphenyltetrazolium chloride to formazan at 2,3,5 degrees and hydrolyzing aesculin in the environments specified in this standard.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for water quality, detection and enumeration of intestinal enterococci within the scope of ISO 7899 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
