Determination of Hydrocarbon Oil Index (TS EN ISO 9377-2)

Determination of Hydrocarbon Oil Index (TS EN ISO 9377-2)

The ISO 9377-2 standard published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) includes a test method for the determination of hydrocarbon oil index in waters by gas chromatography. This method is suitable for surface water, wastewater and water from sewage treatment plants and allows determination of a hydrocarbon oil index at concentrations above 0,1 mg/l.

Determination of Hydrocarbon Oil Index (TS EN ISO 9377-2)

In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 9377-2 Water quality - Determination of hydrocarbon oil index - Part 2: Solvent extraction and gas chromatography method.

This test method is not applicable to the quantitative determination of essential mineral oil content. However, on the basis of the peak pattern of the gas chromatogram, it gives certain qualitative information about the composition of the mineral oil impurity. In the case of heavily polluted wastewater, a loss of recovery may occur, especially if it contains a high amount of surfactant.

The ISO 9377 standard consists of two parts:

  • Part 1: Method using solvent extraction and gravimetry
  • Part 2: Method using solvent extraction and gas chromatography

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are hydrocarbon oil index determination (TS EN ISO 9377-2) services.
