WRAS (Water Regulations Consultation Scheme) operates a testing and certification system for UK regulation drinking water. These laws are comparable to NSF in the USA, KTW, W270 in Germany and ACS XP P 41-250 in France.

All of these are closely related to temperature, so prior formulation review and step-by-step decision by experienced experts is required for successful testing and certification enrollment.
WRAS is a public supply chain regulation, Reg. Unlike 31, this applies to the drinking water supply system for the private sector. Obtaining this WRAS certification requires an understanding of the BS 6920 standard.
The first part of the BS 6920 exam is the Smell and Taste exam, which is a type of sensory test. This test evaluates the connections of water hoses, pipes or tubes that impart an identifiable taste or color change to drinking water.
The test is performed with chlorinated water and common water, respectively, and the two solutions are diluted 1:1 and evaluated. If no abnormality is found in the first dilution, the test process is completed, otherwise, the test result is finalized with the second dilution. This test takes a long time relative to the dilution time as it goes through the dilution process and the evaluation process in the middle of the testing process.
It is decided by the evaluation of the panelists participating in the test and the taste evaluation etc. may have health risks. The test panel evaluates according to strict guidelines, such as limiting non-water drinking and smoking 60 minutes before the test.
To obtain WRAS Material Approval, non-metallic materials in contact with water must be recognized for conformity by testing BS 6920.
In the BS 6920 test, the test items may vary depending on which non-metallic material in contact with water is used and where it is used, and the general test items are as follows.
Test water temperature needs to be determined in BS 6920 test and there are cold water (23C), room temperature condition and cold and hot water (85C), hot water condition. Of the two conditions, the hot water condition test has a longer test time, and the hot water condition test consists of the following.
If the above test proves that the material is safe for water quality, the conditions for obtaining WRAS Material Approval will be met.
See below for details.
Test duration: 14 days. This test determines whether a material imparts a recognizable odor or taste to chlorine-free or chlorinated water. The evaluation is conducted by three trained panelists.
Test duration: 10 days. This test determines the effect of the material on the color and turbidity of the water. Growth of aquatic microorganisms (BS 6920-2.4). Test duration: 7 to 9 weeks. This test is performed by determining whether a material can support the growth of microorganisms in water and by measuring the use or absorption of dissolved oxygen in the test water.
Test duration: 5 days. This test is a simple toxicity assessment performed by immersing a sample in water and evaluating the extract water for toxic reactions using tissue culture.
Test duration: 21 days. This test determines whether the material allows metal to pass through the water. Test samples are evaluated for aluminum, antimony, arsenic, boron, cadmium, chromium, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, and selenium.
WRAS is a certificate for substances that come into contact with drinking water.
In general, it is divided into two as product certification and material certification, and the test institution is determined for each area.
In the case of test laboratories that normally test products, the tests are carried out in a laboratory that has achieved ISO/IEC 17025 for each British Standards standard applied to each item. However, in the case of a BS 6920 test, for example, in the case of a laboratory testing substances, the test must be carried out in a laboratory that is separated for reasons such as deviations in test results.
Test standards: Depending on the product to be certified, the following tests are usually required.
The above test is applied to all parts and materials that come into direct contact with drinking water. Microbial growth testing and dissolution testing take a relatively long time in these tests.
Test duration: As WRAS also points out, there are many variables that affect test duration, making it difficult to determine the correct duration.
In order to obtain this certificate in a short time under ideal conditions, it can be evaluated that it can be obtained in a short time since the pure test takes about 8 weeks. You can check the expected problems and preparations in advance, prepare and test the test plan, get active cooperation from the test.
The biggest variable in the time required for purchase is, of course, the testing process according to the product's specifications. In order to obtain this certification without any problems, it is recommended that the formulation of the product subject to the certificate be reviewed based on the positive list and a laboratory specialist should be asked to evaluate its applicability.
It may take several months if technical examination is required at every stage of testing and certification standards, revision of technical conditions related to the product, and progress in sequence while reflecting on the product.
Certification registration period: The testing laboratory usually handles the registration on behalf of another party. This is because it is not recommended to contact manufacturers or non-experts to facilitate communication with the Product Approval Group (PAG) for WRAS certification.
It is therefore recommended that laboratories, which are expert groups with sufficient knowledge of specifications, products and test results, contact WRAS. The policy of the certification body is to complete the certification within 5 business days and issue the certificate within 10 business days.
Certification registration fee: The fee paid to the certification body for WRAS certification registration is divided into material approval fee, product approval fee and recertification fee and is published on the WRAS website. There is no cost, but strict business procedures can be cumbersome.
Testing costs: Testing costs are categorized into material testing costs and product testing costs. The initial testing cost varies depending on the laboratory's policy at the time. Therefore, it is important to negotiate with the laboratory. Also, to expedite the testing process, it's crucial to submit your test application earlier rather than paying a facilitation fee.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. WRAS tests and certification services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
