Within the scope of the National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI), the SM 2120 C method, which includes a test method for the color determination of surface and ground waters, has been developed.

The color in surface and groundwater is primarily due to the presence of natural organic matter, especially decomposed plant or animal residues in the water. These residues consist of fulvic acids and cause a yellow-brown color in water. Humic acids impart a more intense color and intensify the color of water through the presence of iron and the formation of soluble ferric residues.
Suspended particles, especially colloidal sized particles such as clays, algae, iron and manganese oxides, impart a colorful appearance to waters.
Industrial wastewater contains color-causing lignin, tannins, dyes and other organic and inorganic chemicals. The color caused by rotten plant or animal residues in the water is removed from drinking water sources for aesthetic reasons and health reasons, as they cause the formation of disinfection by-products.
The SM 2120 C method is primarily applied to color measurement caused by natural organic matter. The measurements are valid for all surface and ground waters, domestic and industrial wastewater and especially drinking water.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Color determination (SM 2120 C method) services are among the numerous tests performed in this context.
