ISTA Fedex Tests

ISTA Fedex Tests

ISTA (International Safe Transit Association, International Safe Transit Association) is an organization that develops test methods that define how packages must perform to ensure their contents are protected.

ISTA Fedex Tests

Fedex, on the other hand, is an American multinational company focused on transportation, e-commerce and services and provides air-ground transfer, cargo and logistics services worldwide.

ISTA tests range from those used as a screening tool (1-series) early in the design process to tests that are general simulations of hazards typically found in a particular shipment type (3-series):

  • The 1-series are non-simulation integrity performance tests. These tests question the strength and durability of the product and package combination. It is not designed to simulate environmental events.
  • The 2-series are partial simulation performance tests. In addition to the core elements of 1-series tests, these tests include tests with at least one element of a 3-series general simulation performance test, such as atmospheric conditioning or mode-shaped random vibration.
  • The 3-series are general simulation performance tests. These tests are designed to provide laboratory simulation of damaging motions, forces, conditions and sequences of transport environments.

Fedex package testing methods are based on data from shipping studies within distribution networks, industry procedures, international testing standards and development methodology and practices to provide reliable packaging testing. Fedex outlines general simulation procedures for testing packaged goods moving over small package shipping networks.

The pass/fail criteria for these tests are as follows:

  • Product damage (if the product is damaged during testing, it is a malfunction)
  • Packaging failure (cannot keep the product sealed if the outer packaging or closure method fails and exposes the product)
  • To protect the respective packages, the package must remain securely (packages must not contain bulges, broken glass, product leakage, etc.)
  • Customer-specific criteria (except for dented boxes, scratches, torn labels, criteria determined by the customer are taken into account)

Once the test protocol is complete, the packaging is opened and the contents inspected unless obvious damage is detected during or after an individual test. If damage is detected at any point during the tests, further testing may be required.

Our organization also provides ISTA Fedex testing services with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
