A product that is vegan does not contain any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. This product includes, but is not limited to, honey, beeswax, lanolin, collagen, albumin, carmine, cholesterol, gelatin, and the like. For many people, the concept of vegan also means that a product is not tested on animals. Today, there are many manufacturers who declare that animals are not tortured and offer a mostly vegan range of products.
For a product to be cruelty-free, no animal testing should be done at any stage during the production of the products. However, the fact that the product is cruelty-free does not always mean vegan. Because manufacturers are required not to test on animals, both in the end product and in the processes in between, and not to use materials that have been tested on animals by third parties.
Legislation allows testing on animals. Therefore, finished products may have been tested on animals by a third party to comply with various regional laws around the world. These products cannot be considered cruelty-free, no matter what wording is on the packaging.
