ABD0031 Aircraft Material Fire Test - Airbus Standard

ABD0031 Airbus fire tests are designed to:

• To demonstrate that acceptable control of ignition risk has been achieved.
• To demonstrate that, when exposed to a source of ignition, acceptable control of heat, smoke and toxic fume content and total emissions is achieved for all major use materials and surfaces.
• To prove that acceptable fire resistance is achieved for all materials and items that are required to act as a barrier to fire or to perform some function when exposed to fire.

Within the scope of the ABD0031 Airbus fire resistance requirements, the test requirements for the formation of smoke and toxic gases are specified as follows:

• Hydrogen fluoride (HF), volume not exceeding 100 ppm
• Hydrochloric acid (HCL), volume not exceeding 150 ppm
• Hydrocyanic acid (HCN), volume not exceeding 150 ppm
• Sulfur dioxide (SO2), volume not exceeding 100 ppm
• Nitro gases (NO and NO2), volume not exceeding 100 ppm
• Carbon monoxide (CO), not exceeding 100 ppm volume

The average concentration of the above-mentioned gas components (parts per million, ppm) in the smoke generated during the fire must not exceed the limiting values ​​shown, within the relevant test period, under the required test conditions. This standard evaluates both the toxicity and opacity of smoke simultaneously.
