BSS 7387, a Boeing Safety Standard, is based on 14 CFR (FAR) Part 25 Annex F, which is regulated by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and describes the flammability test requirements applicable to aircraft materials. This test method is most commonly used to demonstrate compliance of materials with the 14 CFR 25.856 standard.
The purpose of this test method is to evaluate the fire resistance properties of thermal and acoustic insulation material when exposed to high intensity open flame. The test specimen requirements were determined as follows: 8 pieces, 813 mm x 915 mm.
The effects of fire cause a significant number of deaths in aircraft accidents. The investigations revealed that the fire generally developed between the fuselage and the passenger cabin, and insulation was also involved in the spread of the fire. In order to prevent such fire disasters in the future, a new test method, the fire resistance test, has been developed by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to determine the fire behavior of the insulation materials at the bottom of the fuselage. For airplanes with a capacity of 20 or more passengers, this part, manufactured from 2007, with thermal/acoustic insulation materials placed on the lower half of the fuselage, must meet the flame penetration resistance requirements described in the 14 CFR 25.856 standard. Only materials with very high fire safety levels pass the fire resistance test. These tests are considered important in order to avoid such fire disasters in the future.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires the use of a variety of fire testing methods to demonstrate that aircraft materials meet specified performance criteria when exposed to heat or flame to ensure prescribed levels of fire safety in civil aircraft. In principle, the specific test method required is helpful for the fire environment to which a particular material can potentially be exposed, and the test criteria relate to the material's performance in that fire environment.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides insulation (burning) test services in case of combustion of Boeing aircraft material, within the scope of BSS 7387 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
