A standard test method for the control and calibration of electromagnetic interference measurement antennas in the SAE ARP 958 standard developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). .
The primary application of this standard is for use when measuring a source 1 m from the antenna in a shield room versus a source at a greater distance. This distance is the typical distance used to conduct military electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests. So this is a calibration method. Shield room features are not taken into account. It does not address an unknown distributed resource. However, it is considered realistic as it is based on another antenna representing a distributed source.
This standard provides a technique for determining antenna factors for antennas used to make certain measurements. A revision of this standard has been made to include calibration of other antennas such as small loop antennas specified for use in the same references. The latest revision of the standard includes a special procedure for loop antennas separated by 1 meter from the device under test.
The use of antennas in the near-field region is very common in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications. The SAE ARP 958 standard includes a calibration procedure. According to this standard, the gain and antenna factor are measured by placing two similar antennas at a distance of 1 meter from each other. Measured results are affected by the secondary antenna available to measure the gain, values affected by near field coupling between antennas can cause errors at close gain of 2 dB.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a disturbance caused by an electromagnetic field that interferes with the proper performance of an electrical device. Electromagnetic interference can also come from man-made or natural sources, such as the sun or the earth's magnetic fields. However, many of the electromagnetic interferences that cause problems for sensitive research applications are caused by stray magnetic or electric fields produced by machinery or electrical equipment.
Our organization also provides electromagnetic interference measurement antennas and standard calibration test services within the scope of SAE ARP 958 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
