SAE ARP 5323 Balancing Machines - Vertical, Single Plane, Rigid Bearing Type Description and Evaluation for Gas Turbine Rotors

SAE ARP 5323 Balancing Machines - Vertical, Single Plane, Rigid Bearing Type Description and Evaluation for Gas Turbine Rotors

The purpose of the SAE ARP 5323 standard, developed by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), is to define the technical specifications of vertical-type, rigid-bearing balancing machines for measuring the amount and angle of balance corrections required in the vertical plane to balance gas turbine rotors.

SAE ARP 5323 Balancing Machines - Vertical, Single Plane, Rigid Bearing Type Description and Evaluation for Gas Turbine Rotors

This standard includes:

  • Overall dimensions and capacities
  • performance requirements
  • Balancing speed ranges
  • Drive power requirements
  • Balancing machine shaft flange dimensions
  • Test procedures

Proving rotors and related test masses required for performance tests are included in the SAE ARP 4162 standard.

The SAE ARP 5323 standard describes test methods in detail and provides test log examples along with a polar diagram for evaluation of test results.

While preparing this standard, SAE ARP 588 standard for vertical, single plane, soft bearing balancing machines and SAE ARP 4050 standard for vertical, biplane, hard bearing balancing machines were taken into consideration. In addition, ISO 2953 and ISO 21940-21 standards and existing fixed bearing technology were taken into account.

The SAE ARP 5323 standard was developed for hard bearing balancing machines, but is also used for existing soft bearing balancing machines.

Rigid bearing machines have been used for gas turbine rotor balancing for several years. These machines have largely replaced the soft bed machines. Rigid bearing machines have advantages such as start-up reading, simpler operation, easy adaptation to computerization and permanent calibration. It also eliminates support locking requirements and wind surges.

This standard also includes performance tests to ensure compliance with the standard.

This standard provides a general description of balancing equipment capable of balancing gas turbine rotors currently in service or in future service.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, has vertical, single plane, rigid bearing type definitions for balancing machines and gas turbine rotors within the scope of SAE ARP 5323 standard. It also provides testing services for evaluation and evaluation.
