ECSS-E-ST-10-03C Aerospace Engineering - Tests

The ECSS-E-ST-10-03C standard, published by the European cooperation for space standardization (ECSS) organization, describes the requirements to perform verification by ground testing of space segment elements and space segment equipment before launch. This standard applies to tests performed on proficiency models, flight models (tested at acceptance level), and pre-flight models.

This standard provides:

• Requirements for test program and test management
• Requirements for retest
• Requirements for redundancy testing
• Requirements for environmental testing
• General requirements for functional and performance testing (specific requirements for functional and performance testing are not part of this standard as they are defined in specific project documents)
• Requirements for qualification, acceptance and pre-flight testing, including test margins and duration of qualification, acceptance and pre-flight models
• Requirements for test factors, test conditions, test tolerances and test accuracies
• General requirements for development testing at the beginning of a proficiency testing program (development testing is specific and is addressed in various engineering discipline standards)
• Content of documents required for testing activities

This standard does not include the following tests:

• Space system testing (ie testing on space segment element), especially system validation testing
• In-orbit tests
• Testing of space segment subsystems (testing of space segment subsystems is generally limited to functional tests run on specific models in some cases)
• Testing of equipment below space segment equipment levels (including assembly, parts and components)
• Testing of stand-alone software (for verification of flight or ground software, ECSS-E-ST-40 and ECSS-Q-ST-80 standards apply)
• Qualification tests of two-phase heat transport equipment (for the qualification test of two-phase heat transport equipment, the standard ECSS-E-ST-31-02 applies)
• Tests of launcher segments, subsystems and equipment, and launch facilities
• Tests of facilities and ground support equipment
• Ground segment tests

The ECSS-E-ST-10-03C standard is adapted for certain characteristics and constraints of a space project that complies with the ECSS-S-ST-00 standard. Guidelines on this subject are included in the standard annex (Annex D).
