ATA SPEC 104 Aircraft Maintenance Training Guidelines
Developed by the Air Transport Association (ATA) The ATA SPEC 104 standard is the industry's standard guide to advancing aviation maintenance training and includes a greater application of formal teaching system design philosophy while focusing on the various job functions and skill mixes embedded in air carrier maintenance organisations. This standard aims to provide communication and common understanding among the various interested parties regarding aviation maintenance training and related training materials.

104 education levels are defined in the ATA SPEC 5 standard:
- Level I General introduction. Personnel should be familiar with the equipment available and be familiar with turbine powered transport aircraft. This level provides a brief overview of the fuselage, systems and power unit as outlined in the system description section of the aircraft maintenance manual.
- Level II Ramp and transit. Personnel should have knowledge and experience of turbine powered transport aircraft, digital electronic equipment. This level provides an overview of the system. It also provides a description of controls, indicators, and key components, including their location, and hands-on training on service and minor troubleshooting.
- Level III Line and base maintenance training. Personnel attending the training should have the necessary knowledge and experience to maintain turbine-powered transport aircraft, in addition to the Level I and II requirements. This level provides a detailed description, operation, component location, removal and installation, and troubleshooting procedures to the maintenance manual level.
- Level IV Specialization. Entry level is determined by subject. Personnel must have significant experience in the field in which the training will be received. This level provides a detailed description, component location, in-depth troubleshooting, tuning, test procedures, hardware, engine starting, in-depth use of wiring diagrams, and engineering data.
- Level V Component revision training. Entry level is determined by subject. Personnel must meet the prerequisites set by the seller. This level is specialized maintenance and overhaul training conducted at the component maintenance manual level by airframe, engine, avionics manufacturers, suppliers and airlines.
