BSS 7230 Aircraft Material Fire Testing - Flammability Testing of Aircraft Materials According to FAR Part 25, Annex F, Part 1

Various fire test procedures have been developed by the American Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to prove that aircraft materials meet certain performance criteria when exposed to heat or flame. The flammability test specimens defined in FAR 25 Annex F, which is one of these procedures, are as follows:

BSS 7230 Aircraft Material Fire Testing - Flammability Testing of Aircraft Materials According to FAR Part 25, Annex F, Part 1

  • BSS 7230: F1 Vertical (60 seconds) 5 pcs (75 mm x 305 mm)
  • BSS 7230: F2 Vertical (12 seconds) 5 pcs (75 mm x 305 mm)
  • BSS 7230: F3 Horizontal (maximum burning rate 2,5”) 5 pcs (75 mm x 305 mm)
  • BSS 7230: F4 Horizontal (maximum burning rate 4.0”) 5 pcs (75 mm x 305 mm)
  • BSS 7230: F5 45 degrees 5 pcs (250 mm x 250 mm)
  • BSS 7230: F6 60 degrees (BSS 7324) (4.5 meters)

The BSS 7230 standard, a Boeing Safety Standard, defines the following test methods for determining the fire response of materials used in the production of Boeing aircraft:

  • Vertical bunsen burner test (FAR 25.853 and FAR 25.855) (ASTM F) for cabin and cargo compartment materials501) (requirements: maximum flame time of 15 seconds, maximum flame dripping time of 3 or 5 seconds, and maximum burning length of 15 or 20 cm)
  • Bunsen burner test (FAR 45) at 25 degrees for cargo compartment linings and waste storage materials (requirements: 15 seconds maximum flame time, no flame penetration and 10 seconds maximum flash time)
  • Horizontal bunsen burner test (FAR 25.853) (ASTM F776) for cabin, cargo compartment and miscellaneous materials (requirements: maximum combustion rate of 6 or 10 cm/min)

In these tests, a specially designed flammability test device is used.

Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of BSS 7230 standard, the flammability of Boeing aircraft materials according to FAR Part 25, Annex F, Part 1. It also provides testing services.
