Flue Gas Moisture Determination (EPA 4 Method)

Flue Gas Moisture Determination (EPA 4 Method)

Developed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the EPA 4 method describes a test method for determining moisture content in stack gases: Method 4 Moisture content.

Flue Gas Moisture Determination (EPA 4 Method)

This method does not include all the features (e.g., equipment and materials) and procedures (e.g., sampling) necessary for its performance. Some materials are included as references from other methods in this section. Therefore, to obtain reliable results, those using this method should have at least comprehensive knowledge of additional testing methods (EPA method 1, method 5, and method 6).

With the EPA 4 method, a sample is taken from the flue gas at a certain flow rate and the moisture content in this gas is determined by gravimetric method. In this method, two processes are mentioned for moisture sampling: the reference method and the approximation method.

The reference method is used to accurately determine the moisture content. That is, in order to calculate the measurement data in the sampled chimney, moisture must be determined according to this procedure. In the approximation method, the moisture content in the chimney is estimated before sampling. Other methods such as wet - dry thermometer are also used for this estimation.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Among the numerous tests performed in this context, there are also flue gas moisture determination (EPA 4 method) services.
