EN 840-5 Mobile Waste and Recycling Containers - Part 5: Performance Requirements and Test Methods

EN 840-5 Mobile Waste and Recycling Containers - Part 5: Performance Requirements and Test Methods

In the EN 840-5 standard, which is a European standard, there are test methods for mobile waste and recycling containers according to the standards between EN 840-1 and EN 840-4. In addition, the levels to be reached during or after the tests are also explained in this part of the EN 840 standard. The EN 840-5 standard applies to mobile waste and recycling containers with a capacity of up to 1700 L.

EN 840-5 Mobile Waste and Recycling Containers - Part 5: Performance Requirements and Test Methods

Before and after the tests to be carried out within the scope of EN 840-5 standard, a visual inspection of the container is performed for the following purposes:

  • Checking that the container is not damaged and has no visual defects
  • To check that the manufacturing features of the container to be tested are those specified in the standards applied to the container according to the standards between EN 840-1 and EN 840-4
  • Comparing the state of the container before and after sorting the tests

Before the tests, the following checks are made:

  • Visual aspects: There should be no obvious damage, cracks, bubbles, large flares or sharp edges. There should be no surface defects detected by the naked eye from a distance of 1 m.
  • Compliance with standards EN 840-1 and EN 840-4: Components, dimensions and volumes are checked. The body, cover, wheels and other fittings must comply with the relevant container standard. The functional and safety dimensions for the container and its components must be appropriate. Container volumes should be measured. The volumes must be within tolerances according to the standards EN 840-1 and EN 840-4.
  • Deviation for the card lifting system: The deviation values specified in the standard must not be exceeded.

Checks after tests include safely lifting and tilting the loaded container on the specified lifting equipment and moving the container on its wheels.

A few tests performed on containers are: drop impact tests, impacts on an inclined plane, and in-travel connectivity tests.

In addition, various tests such as stability testing, pulling and rolling tests and lifting and tilting tests are performed on mobile waste and recycling containers.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for mobile waste and recycling containers within the scope of EN 840-5 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
