According to the standard “MBN 10494-6 Paint test methods - Part 6: Climatic tests” developed by the Mercedes Benz Company, at least two supply specifications are generally required to test a paint/coating material or similar substance and a painted/coated part:

To ensure product safety and product quality and to comply with homologation requirements, all relevant legal regulations and laws must be observed. In addition, the relevant requirements of the Daimler Group apply.
All materials, process technologies, component parts and systems must comply with applicable legal requirements regarding regulated substances and recyclability. Relevant information on prohibited and declarable substances is contained in standards DBL 8585 and DBL 6714.
With all coating materials, care must be taken to ensure the lowest possible odor and the lowest possible volatile substance content (e.g. solvents, plasticizers, etc.).
Preparations/coating materials must be marked in accordance with legal regulations and the necessary information for transport and use must be provided. In case of use abroad, the regulations and rules applicable to these countries must also be taken into account.
Climatic tests performed under this standard include:
The evaluation of the above-mentioned tests is described in the section “Evaluation of corrosion and coating damage” of this standard. In order to carry out the above-mentioned tests completely, the following sections of the standard are also necessary: “Climatic tests”, “General part of climatic tests” and “Evaluation of corrosion and coating damage”.
The condensed water constant atmosphere test is similar to the test method described in the standard “ISO 6270-2 Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to moisture - Part 2: Condensation (cabinet exposure with heated water tank)”. These tests require a test chamber conforming to the ISO 6270-2 standard. Alternatively, a test chamber with a humidifier without a tray can be used, provided that the specified humidity of 98% is maintained by condensation on the samples. An air temperature of 40 degrees plus/minus 3 degrees and 98% relative humidity by condensation on the samples are required.
The salt spray test is similar to the test method described in the standard “ISO 9227 Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres - Salt spray tests”. In these tests, a test chamber conforming to the ISO 9227 standard is used. Proof of constant test conditions by means of mass loss plates is as described in the section “Function test of the test chamber” of this standard.
Copper accelerated acetic acid salt spray “CASS” test is similar to the test method described in “ISO 9227 Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres - Salt spray tests” using aluminum as the base material. In these tests, a test chamber conforming to ISO 9227 is used. Deviations from ISO 9227 are adjusted by adding acetic acid to the pH value. Proof of constant test conditions by means of mass loss plates is as described in the “Function test of the test chamber” section of this standard.
Corrosion cycle test 1 is performed in a similar manner to cycle B test described in ISO 11997-1 Paints and varnishes - Determination of resistance to cyclic corrosion conditions - Part 1: Wet (salt fog)/dry/damp". This test is performed only in a programmable combination chamber. These tests use temperature and humidity control integrated into the chamber by means of a data logger. Proof of constant test conditions by means of mass loss plates is as described in the "Functional test of the test chamber" section of this standard.
The corrosion cycle test 2 is similar to the test method described in the standard “DIN 55635 Cyclic corrosion testing of materials and components in automotive construction”. The DIN 55635 standard has replaced the VDA 233-102 standard. The tests utilize a programmable combination corrosion test chamber with integrated temperature and humidity control via a data logger.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the “MBN 10494-6 Paint test methods - Part 6: Climatic tests” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
