The EN 840-3 standard, a European standard, describes the dimensions and design requirements of 1300-wheel mobile waste and recycling containers with dome lids and a capacity of up to 4 L for use by the trunnion and/or comb lifter.

For the purposes of this standard, the term mobile waste and recycling container refers to suitably designed containers fitted with wheels, intended for the temporary storage of waste. The lifting device is the structure that picks up, tilts, and empties the containers. The comb lifting device is the lifting device in which the collection system consists of a row of teeth and a locking system to hold the container during emptying. The trunnion lifting device is the lifting device in which the collection system consists of a pair of arms with an automatic locking mechanism to fit onto the trunnion to hold the container during emptying. Volume refers to the total area inside the container when the lid is closed, nominal volume refers to the capacity volume specified by the manufacturer. Nominal mass refers to the mass calculated as given in the standard, total allowable mass refers to the mass of the container plus the nominal mass. The functional and safety dimension refers to the essential dimensions that ensure the functionality and interchangeability of the container with the compatible lifting device and are necessary for the safety and health of the operator.
This standard defines two classes of containers:
The following volumes are defined within these two container classes: 770 L, 1.000 L, 1.100 L and 1.300 L. Nominal volumes different from those referenced may be used by agreement between the user and the manufacturer.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services under the EN 840-3 standard for the dimensions and design of four-wheeled containers with dome lids and capacities up to 1.300 L, used for trunnion and/or dredge lifting devices among mobile waste and recycling containers. This is achieved through our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
