The dust emission rate is the vertical mass dust flow at the surface. Determining the dust emission rate is considered important in two respects: dust emission is an important component of both the global dust cycle and the related nutrient cycle. Once airborne, dust particles can be spread by air currents to the upper levels of the atmosphere and then carried over great distances by winds, eventually collapsing back to the surface. In agricultural areas in this process, the loss of dust particles causes land degradation because the fine particles are mostly rich in nutrients and organic matter. Mineral dusts are an important food source for the oceans.

On the other hand, dust generated by winds is the main source of atmospheric aerosols that have effects on air quality, weather and climate. If the dust emission rate is not accurately estimated, it is not possible to precisely calculate the aerosol concentration in the atmosphere. Therefore, it is important to determine the amount of dust emission for both soil protection and atmospheric studies.
Dust is a widespread problem in terms of air quality. Increased dust levels in the air are raising concerns about dust. Studies are ongoing to find practical and cost-effective methods to reduce dust levels. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has introduced the PM10 standard for dust control. This standard is a good opportunity to reduce dust emissions. Because societies and cultures differ, each society needs to understand the causes of dust, different types of dust control, and available resources, and develop strategies tailored to its specific needs. Our country uses the same limit values for particulate matter (PM10) as European Union countries (40 µg m3 annually and 50 µg m3 daily). The World Health Organization recommends PM10 limit values of 50 µg m3 daily and 20 µg m3 annually.
In order to reduce dust emissions, it is recommended to reduce the number of vehicles on the road, reduce speed, improve road design, connect road particles, close unpaved roads and slow down the wind effect.
Our organization, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, also provides dust emission amount determination services at nominal reference temperature conditions with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
