ISO 9863 Geosynthetics - Determination of Thickness at Specified Pressures

ISO 9863 Geosynthetics - Determination of Thickness at Specified Pressures

The ISO 9863 standard, published by the International Standards Organization (ISO), consists of the following two parts:

ISO 9863 Geosynthetics - Determination of Thickness at Specified Pressures

  • ISO 9863-1 Geosynthetics - Determination of thickness at specified pressures - Part 1: Monolayers
  • ISO 9863-2 Geotextiles and geotextile related products - Thickness at specified pressures - Part 2: Dprocedure for determining the thickness of single layers of arrow-layer products

The ISO 9863-1 standard defines a test method for determining the thickness of geosynthetics at certain pressures and at certain load plate areas or under certain point loads. With these tests, the pressures or load at which the thickness is determined are determined. Test results are intended for identification purposes and for use in technical data sheets or as part of other test methods. For example, tests of hydraulic properties. These test methods are applicable to all geosynthetics. For the purposes of this standard, thickness refers to the distance between the reference plate on which the specimen rests and the contacting face of a parallel pressure leg that applies a certain pressure to the specimen, or the distance between two reference points that apply a certain load to the specimen.

The following test methods are offered in the ISO 9863-1 standard:

  • Procedure A: New samples for each pressure
  • Procedure B: Incremental loading of single samples
  • Procedure C: Uniform thickness polymeric and bituminous geosynthetic barriers
  • Procedure D: Polymeric and bituminous geosynthetic barriers of unequal thickness

The ISO 9863-2 standard describes a test method for determining the thickness of single layers of multilayer geotextiles at specified pressures. According to this test method, the thickness of the individual layers of a sample is measured under a certain pressure without the layers being mechanically separated. This requires predetermining the average value of the total thickness of the multilayer product at the desired pressure according to the EN 964-1 standard. In this standard, the method of determining the thickness of geotextiles and related products under certain pressures and the pressure by which the nominal thickness is determined are defined.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for the determination of thickness of geosynthetics at specified pressures, within the scope of ISO 9863 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
