In the ISO 3402 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the marking features and test methods for indicating the gas in gas cylinders used for medical purposes are explained. This standard has also been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS 3402 Marking to indicate the gas in gas cylinders used in medicine.

The mentioned standard includes the marks and colors that should be placed on gas cylinders used in the medical field. However, it does not include signs and colors for cyclopropane, which is one of the first substances used as an anesthetic.
While preparing the TS 3402 standard, the ISO 32 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO) was taken as basis. The ISO 32 standard creates a marking system and a range of colors to easily identify the contents of gas cylinders intended for medical use. In the case of gas mixtures, this cylinder has to carry colors suitable for the gases containing the mixture. The cylinders in which medical gases are filled are generally blue and have a white stripe on them.
Medical oxygen, one of the main medical gases, is used in a wide variety of healthcare settings. Nitrous oxide, known as an anesthetic gas, is used in surgeries due to its anesthetic effect. When inhaled in small amounts, it has a relaxing and calming effect on the nerves. To prevent the misuse of these and similar medical gases, the informational markings and codes on the cylinders must be understood in the same way by everyone.
On the other hand, the color codes used to identify the gas and gas mixtures inside the gas cylinders used in the medical field are included in the TS EN 1089-3 standard.
Within the scope of laboratory services, our organization also provides marking features and testing services to indicate the gas in ISO 3402 medical gas cylinders.
