The ISO 9170-2 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the characteristics and test methods of terminal units for anesthetic gas discharge systems for medical gas pipeline systems. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 9170-2 End units for medical gas piping systems - Part 2: End units for anesthetic gas discharge systems.

This standard specifies the requirements and dimensions for terminal units designed for use in anesthetic gas cleaning systems in accordance with the ISO 7396-2 standard. It also specifies two types of terminal units, depending on whether the terminal unit of the power device is upstream or downstream. This standard also describes the requirements and dimensions for the matching counterpart (probe) of the species-specific port that is part of the terminal unit.
Anesthetic gas purging system terminal units are the points where the operator connects and disconnects medical gases and anesthetic vapors from anesthetic machines or other medical equipment to release them . This poses a risk to patients. It is important that terminal units and components are designed, manufactured, installed, and maintained to meet the essential requirements specified in this standard.
The ISO 9170-2 standard specifically focuses on: suitability of materials, type specificity, dimensions of probes and type-specific ports, cleaning, testing, identification and information provided.
This standard specifies the supply of information for the installation and subsequent testing of terminal units. Testing terminal units prior to use is critical to patient safety. These units should not be used until the full test is completed according to the ISO 7396-2 standard.
Within the scope of laboratory services, our organization also provides testing services for terminal units for anesthetic gas discharge systems for ISO 9170-2 medical gas pipeline systems.
