In the EN ISO 19054 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the safety and performance characteristics and test methods of supporting medical equipment rail systems are described. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 19054 Rail systems for supportive medical equipment.

The said standard specifies the basic requirements to ensure compatibility between the standard-compliant rail systems and medical equipment in order to facilitate the transfer of a medical equipment from one rail system to another. This standard includes the technical characteristics of rail systems, dimensions, power and information to be provided by the manufacturer.
The EN ISO 19054 standard covers rail systems intended to be mounted horizontally only. This standard does not cover structures in which a rail system can be installed, the types of medical equipment that can be supported, or overhead rail systems installed to support curtains and infusion devices.
Track systems consist of a number of components mounted in different configurations. Rail systems allow medical equipment such as flow meters, suction devices and armatures to be placed next to the patient. These systems are installed in healthcare facilities, ambulances and other transportation vehicles, and many different equipment such as medical equipment, ceiling pendant, wheelbarrows, beds, ventilators and anesthetic workstations.
A medical equipment is attached to a rail directly by rail clamps or using other components of the dimensions specified in this standard. Rail clamps must be compatible with rails with dimensions specified in this standard.
Rail systems are attached to different load-bearing structures ranging from solid concrete walls or thin drywall partitions to covers of medical equipment. This can pose a danger to the patient and equipment. In this respect, it is important to standardize rail systems in different locations.
Within the scope of laboratory services, our organization also provides safety and performance testing services for medical equipment rail systems that support EN ISO 19054.
