In the ISO 23328-1 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the performance characteristics and test methods of filters used for anesthesia and breathing are described. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 23328-1 Respiratory system filters for anesthesia and respiratory use - Part 1: Salt test method to evaluate filtration performance.

The standard describes a test method for determining short-term airborne sodium chloride particles to evaluate the filtration performance of respiratory system filters designed for filtering inhaled gases. This standard applies to respiratory system filters used with the clinical respiratory system. It also does not apply to types of filters designed, for example, to protect vacuum sources or gas sample lines, filter compressed gases or protect test equipment for physiological respiration measurements. Aspects of respiratory system filters other than filtering are dealt with in the ISO 23328-2 standard.
In short, respiratory system filters are used to reduce the number of particles, including microorganisms in the gases given to patients and exhaled from them. Respiratory filters are exposed to various levels of humidity during clinical use. Respiratory system filters are exposed to humidified air to simulate clinical use. This exposure affects the filtration performance of respiratory system filters. During the tests, respiratory system filters filter the penetrating sodium chloride particles between 0,1 µm and 0,3 µm. This test method is for comparison purposes only. Results are specific to the test method, and no risk factors are derived.
Our organization also provides businesses with ISO 23328-1 performance specification testing services for filters used for anesthesia and respiratory purposes, as part of our laboratory services.
