TS EN ISO 5360 Anesthetic Vaporizers - Substance-Specific Filling Systems

The ISO 5360 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the basic safety and performance characteristics and test methods of substance-specific filling systems in enetic evaporator systems. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 5360 Anesthetic vaporizers - Substance-specific filling systems.

This standard specifies dimensions and other requirements for agent-specific filling systems in agent-specific anesthetic vaporizing equipment. However, this standard does not include building materials. The materials used for the parts of filling systems that come into contact with the liquid anesthetic agent are selected according to the following characteristics: toxicity, compatibility with anesthetic agents, and minimizing health risks due to substances leaking from the materials.

Recommendations regarding the materials are included in the standard appendix. Due to the unique properties of desflurane, dimensions for this agent are not specified in this international standard. Desflurane is a highly fluorinated methyl ethyl ether used for maintenance of general anesthesia. Designs of coupling systems that allow the substance-specific bottle adapter to be connected to the bottle are encouraged only when the bottle collar is in place.

According to this standard, the substance-specific filling system refers to the functional system of agent-specific coded connections between an anesthetic vial and an agent-specific anesthetic vaporizer, for example a threaded bottle neck consisting of a collar, threaded connector, male adapter and filling cup.
