In the ISO 11117 standard developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the design, production and performance characteristics and test methods of gas cylinder valve protection caps are described. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 11117 Gas cylinders - Valve protection covers and valve casings - Design, construction and tests.

This standard describes the requirements for valve protection covers and guards for gas cylinders. It also provides test methods for checking the mechanical strength and physical properties of the valve protection cover or valve housing.
The valve protection cap is used for access to the valve for connection, disconnection, opening and closing, the device protecting the valve during transport and storage. The valve housing is a device that does not need to be removed to access the valve, protecting the valve during transport, transportation and storage.
The ISO 11117 standard applies to protection devices for valves used in cylinders for liquefied, dissolved, or compressed gases. It does not cover protection devices for cylinders with a water capacity of 5 liters or less, or cylinders where the protection device is fixed to the cylinder by welded or soldered lugs, or directly welded or soldered to the cylinder. Furthermore, the international standard does not cover valve protection for breathing apparatus cylinders. The standard also does not specify all the requirements necessary to ensure the use of a valve protection device for lifting the cylinder.
The standards that are referred to as normative in the implementation of the ISO 11117 standard and indispensable for its implementation are: TS EN ISO 10286, TS EN ISO 10297 and TS EN ISO 13341.
Within the scope of laboratory services, our organization also provides design, production and performance testing services for ISO 11117 gas cylinders valve protection covers.
