The ISO 7376 standard, developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the basic safety and performance characteristics and test methods of laryngoscopes, an anesthetic and respiratory equipment. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 7376 Anesthesia and respiratory equipment - Laryngoscopes for tracheal intubation.

This standard provides basic requirements for laryngoscopes used for intubation and describes critical dimensions for the handle and lamp of hook-type laryngoscopes. It also provides criteria for the interchangeability of blades and handles. Intubation is performed to protect the airway, provide continuous respiration, and administer medication if necessary, in case of impaired or risky airway safety, in short, to initiate artificial respiration. Laryngoscopy or special devices are used during this procedure.
Electrical safety requirements are more stringent for devices connected to the mains or external power packages. Therefore, the ISO 7376 standard also covers devices with an internal battery-powered power supply to illuminate the throat only. However, this standard does not apply to surgical equipment with the same name. This standard does not apply to flexible laryngoscopes used in surgical interventions, laryngoscopes fed from the mains electricity source, laryngoscopes connected to external light sources with light transmitting cables, or video laryngoscopes.
Briefly, the ISO 7376 standard covers anesthesia, intensive care, emergency care and reusable and disposable laryngoscope blades and handles, and gives requirements for similar procedures including these.
Our organization also provides basic safety and performance testing services for laryngoscopes, which is an ISO 7376 anesthesia and respiratory equipment, within the scope of laboratory services.
