The IEC / TR 60825-8 standard, developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), an affiliate of the International Standards Organization (ISO), describes the characteristics and test methods for the safety and performance of laser devices used for medical purposes. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TSE IEC / TR 60825-8 Safety of laser products - Part 8: Guidelines for the safe use of laser devices used in medicine.

This standard is a guide to the responsible organization, laser safety officer, employer and other relevant persons on the safe use of lasers and laser equipment classified as 3D or 4. The laser beam is applied to humans, including, but not limited to, healthcare facilities, hospitals, cosmetic and hair removal centers, dentistry, ambulance and home applications.
Although this standard excludes laser classes of class 3B and less than 4, in fact special care should be taken when laser energy levels are used below class 3B and the person's normal response responses are compromised.
The IEC/TR 60825-8 standard includes recommended control measures for the safety of patients, staff, care personnel, and other relevant individuals. Engineering controls that form part of the laser equipment or installation are also included in the standard to ensure an understanding of general protection principles.
Generally covered by this standard are: laser delivery systems, biological effects of laser radiation, reporting of accidents and hazards, and checklists.
This standard provides guidance on how to establish safety procedures and user control measures and aims to protect persons from laser radiation and other associated hazards.
Within the scope of laboratory services, our organization also provides safety and performance testing services for laser devices used for medical purposes in IEC / TR 60825-8.
