A European standard, EN 12528 Furniture castors and wheels - Furniture castors - Requirements", describes the technical requirements, appropriate dimensions and test requirements for furniture castors. This standard applies to general furniture castors, but those specifically for swivel chairs and other special applications are outside the scope of this standard.

Essentially, this standard is the same as "ISO 22883 Furniture castors and wheels - Requirements for applications up to 1,1 m/s (4 km/h)" published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), except for minor differences in the test criteria. ISO 22883 standard specifies the technical requirements, appropriate dimensions and test requirements for wheels and rollers (including accessories) for hand-pushed or power-pulled industrial applications at speeds up to 1,1 m/s (4 km/h). Wheels and rollers for furniture, swivel chairs, equipment for institutional applications, hospital beds or powered applications are not within the scope of this standard. Wheels and rollers for specific applications may also need to comply with other specific standards. Wheels and rollers for furniture, swivel chairs, equipment for institutional applications, hospital beds and powered applications are within the scope of ISO 22879, ISO 22880, ISO 22881, ISO 22882 and ISO 22884 standards, respectively.
For example, the tolerances described in the EN 12528 standard are included in the BS EN 12532 standard but are not included in the ISO 22883 standard. In addition, they are included in the ISO 22878 standard and are the same. The tolerance described in the EN 12528 standard allows for load capacity, while this is not included in the ISO 22883 standard. The ISO 22883 standard includes tolerances depending on the tooth hardness. The same criteria in the EN 12532 and EN 12527 standards do not take into account tooth hardness.
The dimensions and classification of a furniture wheel in the EN 12528 standard are as follows:
The test requirements for furniture castors and wheels are included in this standard. The test apparatus and procedures are included in the standard “EN 12527 Furniture castors and wheels - Test methods and apparatus”.
In general, tests should be conducted at a temperature between 17 degrees and 23 degrees. For 24 hours prior to testing, samples should remain at the specified temperature in an environment with a relative humidity of 40 percent to 70 percent. Samples should not be artificially cooled during testing.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluation studies that our organization has carried out for businesses in various sectors, it also provides testing services defined in the “EN 12528 Furniture castors and wheels - Furniture castors - Requirements” standard with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
