EN 13071-1 Fixed Waste Containers Up to 5 000 L, Lifted Top and Empty Bottom - Part 1: General Requirements

EN 13071-1 Fixed Waste Containers Up to 5 000 L, Lifted Top and Empty Bottom - Part 1: General Requirements

The European standard “EN 13071-1 Fixed waste containers up to 5 000 l, with lifted top and emptied bottom - Part 1: General requirements” specifies the requirements for fixed containers with lifted top and emptied bottom, used for the collection of solid non-hazardous waste, with a capacity of up to 5.000 XNUMX l. The standard includes the general characteristics, test methods and safety requirements for such containers and their accessories, as well as recommendations for installation, maintenance and cleaning operations.

EN 13071-1 Fixed Waste Containers Up to 5 000 L, Lifted Top and Empty Bottom - Part 1: General Requirements

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:

  • The container is a mobile container, lifted from the top and emptied from the bottom, designed to collect waste.
  • Dead mass is the mass of the empty container with all connected components removed together.
  • The discharge device is the part of the structure that allows the container to be emptied.
  • Emptying covers are the opening parts located at the bottom of the container, if any, that allow the container to be emptied.
  • A lifting link is a structure attached to a container to allow lifting and positioning.
  • Container handling system refers to the lifting accessory consisting of a mechanism for connecting the loader crane and the designated waste container and the opening mechanism.
  • The locking system is the structure that keeps the discharge device closed.
  • The nominal load is the load mass calculated from the usable volume of the container and the waste density.
  • Nominal volume is the volume declared by the manufacturer.
  • The test load is the specific load defined and used in each test.
  • The total permissible mass is the dead mass of the container including the nominal load plus all attached components lifted together.
  • Usable volume is the internal volume of the container below the filling opening.
  • The fill opening height is the vertical distance between ground level and the bottom of the fill opening.
  • Total height is the vertical distance between the bottom of the container and the top of the lifting link when open.
  • Container base dimensions are the horizontal dimensions of the base of the container, including all attached components lifted together.
  • The roof is the upper surface of the container or enclosure.
  • A flexible container is a mobile flexible container designed to collect waste that is lifted from the top and emptied from the bottom.
  • Mechatronics is a mechanical and electronic device integrated into the click container.

The installation area of a container must be compatible with the collection processes. Therefore, it must comply with the following restrictions:

  • The maximum distance between the vertical axis of the lifting link and the vertical axis of the lifting crane should not exceed 5000 mm.
  • Access to the collection tool must always be valid and secure.
  • The surroundings of the container and the distance between the container and the parking space of the collection vehicle must be free of any obstacles to allow safe collection operations (trees, street furniture, electrical wires, parking spaces).
  • A minimum annual check must be carried out by the relevant party on all lifting and unloading accessories (unloading device, unloading covers, lifting connection, handling container system, locking system). For this purpose, the container must be designed to allow safe and easy access to these parts and the supplier must provide recommendations for these operations.
  • Interior and exterior cleaning operations are recommended at least once a year.
  • The customer must verify that the collection service uses the correct special equipment (crane, lifting accessory, interface / lifting connections).

The container must be constructed to fit a designated lifting device when loaded or unloaded with a rated load. It must be securely locked to the lifting accessory during lifting. The container must not contain any elements that could cause the collected material to be retained and thus compromise complete unloading. The container must be constructed so that it can be easily dismantled at the end of its life. An end-of-life notification must be provided, and materials must be marked in accordance with ISO standards.

The total height must be maximum 6.000 mm.

Sharp edges should be avoided on all surfaces that may come into contact with users. Rounded edges with a radius greater than 1,4 mm are not considered sharp edges.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses and evaluations carried out for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services defined in the standard “EN 13071-1 Fixed waste containers up to 5 l, lifted top and emptied bottom - Part 000: General requirements” with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
