Erbium finds little use as a metal because it darkens slowly in air and is attacked by water. When alloyed with metals such as vanadium, the hardness of erbium decreases and it becomes more machinable.

Erbium oxide is occasionally used in infrared absorbing glasses, for example as safety glasses for welders and metalworkers. Erbium gives glass a pink color when added. It is used to color some sunglasses and imitation jewellery.
Broadband signals carried by fiber optic cables are amplified by adding erbium to the glass fiber.
Erbium has no known biological role and has low toxicity.
It is mainly found in the minerals erbium, monazite and bastnaesite. It can be extracted by ion exchange and solvent extraction.
Pure erbium is a silvery-white metal that is relatively stable in air. Due to the formation of a protective fluoride layer on the metal surface, it reacts slowly with water and dissolves rapidly in dilute acids except hydrofluoric acid.
Erbium is a rare earth element as well as a transition metal. It has properties that make it valuable for many uses.
In the tests and analyzes carried out in our institution, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also erbium (Er) testing services within the framework of elemental analysis.
