Elemental Analysis - Samarium (Sm)

Samarium is a silvery-white metal. Samarium-cobalt magnets are much stronger than iron magnets. It remains magnetic at high temperatures and is therefore used in microwave applications. The miniaturization of electronic devices such as headphones and the development of personal stereos have been thanks to samarium. However, neodymium magnets are now more widely used.

Elemental Analysis - Samarium (Sm)

Samarium is used to supplement calcium chloride crystals for use in optical lasers. It is also used in infrared absorbing glass and as a neutron absorber in nuclear reactors. Samarium oxide finds special use in glass and ceramics. As with other lanthanides, samarium is used in carbon arc lighting for studio lighting and projection.

Samarium has no known biological role. However, it has low toxicity.

Samarium is found in various minerals along with other lanthanide metals, primarily monazite and bastnaesite. It is separated from other components of the mineral by ion exchange and solvent extraction.

Recently, electrochemical deposition has been used to separate samarium from other lanthanides. A lithium citrate electrolyte and a mercury electrode are used. Samarium metal can also be produced by reduction of the oxide with barium.

In the tests and analyzes carried out in our organization, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Among the numerous tests performed in this context, there are also samarium (Sm) testing services within the framework of elemental analysis.
