Elemental Analysis - Thulium (Tm)

Thulium is a shiny, silvery-colored metal. When irradiated in a nuclear reactor, thulium produces an isotope that emits X-rays. This isotope is used to make a lightweight, portable x-ray machine for medical use. Thulium is used for surgical applications in lasers.

Elemental Analysis - Thulium (Tm)

Thulium has no known biological role. It is also non-toxic.

Thulium is mainly found in the mineral monazite, which contains about 20 parts per million. It is extracted by ion exchange and solvent extraction. The metal is obtained by reduction of anhydrous fluoride with calcium or by reduction of the oxide with lanthanum.

Thulium is a lanthanide element. It can be cut with a knife, and its metal is easy to process. It is the least abundant of the rare earth elements. It tarnishes slowly in air, but is more resistant to oxidation than most other rare earth elements. It also has some corrosion resistance in dry air and good ductility. Naturally occurring thulium is made entirely of the stable thulium-169 isotope.

The element is never found in nature in pure form, but is found in small amounts in minerals along with other rare earths. Mainly thulium is extracted from monazite.

The pure metal and compound have little commercial use. Because it is rare and expensive and has little to offer, thulium finds little application outside of chemical research.

In the tests and analyzes carried out in our organization, which has a wide range of technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and applies the most modern methods, national and international standards and legal regulations in force are complied with. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also thulium (Tm) testing services within the framework of elemental analysis.
