The EN 50365 standard, a European standard, applies to electrically insulating helmets used for working close to live parts in installations that do not exceed 1000 Volts alternating current or 1500 Volts direct current. These helmets, when used with other electrically insulating protective equipment, prevent dangerous current from passing through people's heads.

When helmets are intended for use in environments where there is a risk of contact with high voltage electrical potential (up to 1000 Volts alternating current or 1500 Volts direct current), the helmets must be tested for electrical insulation in accordance with that standard.
This standard exceeds the requirements for optional electrical resistance tests in other European standards EN 397 and EN 812 and the electrical requirements in EN 443. However, the test method described in the EN 50365 standard is quite similar to the wet helmet test defined in these standards. During testing, the helmet shell is filled with water and then floated in a water tank. The electrodes are placed in water inside and outside the shell, and 5000 Volts (proof test) or 10.000 Volts (endurance test) are applied between the two. In endurance testing, for the helmet to be acceptable, the current through the helmet must not exceed 3.5 mA, and in endurance testing, the helmet must withstand the application of potential only (ie not subject to puncture or material degradation). Prior to testing, helmets are subjected to mechanical abrasion (e.g. sanding) and soaked in water for 24 hours to remove protective layers worn during use. Helmets conforming to this standard are permitted to include ventilation holes, provided they continue to protect against contact with the underlying headform by an IP3X probe. Any vents in the helmet are filled with electrician's putty or glue to prevent water from entering during testing.
In short, these helmets, when used with other electrically insulating protective equipment, prevent dangerous current from passing through people's heads.
Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer testing services for electrically insulated helmets for use in low-voltage installations, in accordance with the EN 50365 standard, thanks to our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
