Determination of Organic Tin Compounds

Determination of Organic Tin Compounds

Tributyltin (TBT) is a concept for a class of organic tin compounds. A prominent example is tributyltin oxide. Tributyltin is used as a biocide in anti-fouling paints, commonly called floor paints for the hull of ocean-going ships. Bottom paint helps to increase the performance and durability of the ship as it reduces the rate of biofouling. Tributyltin is also used as a preservative for wood coverings, carpets and canvas.

Determination of Organic Tin Compounds

Organic tin is widely used as a stabilizer in consumer products and plastics. Tributyltin compounds have been included in antifouling products since the 1960s.

Organotin compounds, or tin compounds, are hydrocarbon-substituted tin-based chemical compounds. Organotin compounds are generally classified according to their oxidation states. Tin compounds are much more common and more useful.

Tributyltin (TBT) is a toxic chemical compound used for various industrial purposes such as slime control in paper mills, disinfection of circulating industrial coolants, antipollution agents, and wood preservation.

Due to its widespread use as a toxic substance in boat paints, TBT is a common pollutant in marine and freshwater ecosystems that exceeds acute and chronic toxicity levels. TBT is the most important pesticide in marine and fresh waters in Europe and is a cause for concern.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. Among the numerous tests carried out in this context, there are also services for the determination of organic tin compounds.
