Developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the ASTM D 3686 standard provides a sampling method from atmospheres for determining the presence of certain organic vapors by adsorption on activated charcoal using a charcoal tube and a small portable sampling pump fitted by a worker. The full name of this standard is: ASTM D3686-13 Standard practice for sampling from atmospheres to collect organic compound vapors (activated charcoal tube adsorption method).

A list of some organic chemical vapors that can be sampled using this method is included in the standard annex (Annex A1). This list is provided as an information guide and should not be considered absolute or exhaustive. Some chemical compounds sampled within this scope include: benzene, ethanol, ethyl acetate, isopropyl alcohol, isoamyl alcohol, chloroform, methylene chloride, n-hexane, n-heptane, and tetrahydrofuran.
The ASTM D3686 method does not cover any sampling method that requires special impregnation of activated charcoal or other adsorption medium.
In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. These studies are based on the latest technological equipment, trained and experienced staff and modern methods. Determination of volatile organic compounds (ASTM D 3686) services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
