IEC 60895 Live Work - Conductive Clothing

IEC 60895 Live Work - Conductive Clothing

The IEC 60895 standard, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) , describes the requirements for conductive clothing worn during live work on alternating current and direct current electrical installations, particularly when working with bare hands, to ensure electrical continuity between all parts of the garment and a reduction in the electric field within the garment.

IEC 60895 Live Work - Conductive Clothing

In electrical systems with a rated voltage of 1000 kV alternating current or 800 kV direct current, a conductive garment, such as jackets and trousers or overalls, forming a one-piece garment, and conductive component parts (e.g. gloves, hoods or helmets, shoes or boots, overshoes) and socks) is applicable to the assembled conductive clothing.

This standard does not show the protection values from the effects of electric arc.

Products designed and manufactured to this standard are intended to ensure the safety of users, provided they are used by persons trained for the job in accordance with live working methods and instructions for use.

A major technical revision has been made in the last update of this standard. For example,

  • Usage increased to 1000 kV alternating current or 800 kV direct current.
  • Two classes of conductive clothing with different electrical requirements are introduced.
  • The electrical requirements of conductive clothing are reviewed.
  • Specific resistance values are defined for each component part of the conductive suit.
  • Conductive helmets and conductive scarves have been identified as component parts of conductive clothing.
  • Mechanical requirements and new tests for fabrics are defined.
  • Cleaning test procedures have been updated.
  • Efficiency testing of conductive garments has been revised to improve feasibility and reproducibility.
  • The recommended frequency of periodic tests has been changed.

In short, this standard provides specifications for protective conductive clothing currently used by skilled electrical workers worldwide without incident in live work. The adequacy of this suit is determined by its efficiency and by the electrical resistance of the material and component parts of the conductive suit. This standard has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the IEC 61477 standard, as applicable.

Our organization also provides conductive clothing testing services within the scope of IEC 60895 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
