VOC Measurement

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are gases released into ambient air from many sources. Concentrations of many volatile organic compounds in indoor air are higher than in outdoor air. One of the most common volatile organic compounds is formaldehyde. This chemical compound is a colorless gas with a pungent, acrid odor. It is commonly used in many building materials such as plywood, particleboard, and adhesives. Formaldehyde is also found in some fabrics and coverings, and in some foam insulation materials.

Other sources of volatile organic compounds include the combustion of gas, fuels such as wood and kerosene, and tobacco products. Volatile organic compounds are also emitted into the air from personal care products such as perfume and hairspray, cleaning agents, dry cleaning fluid, paints, varnishes and hobby supplies, and from copiers and printing machines. The amount of volatile organic compounds emitted from these products tends to decrease as the product ages.

Volatile organic compounds cause many health problems, from eye, nose and throat irritation to shortness of breath, from headaches to fatigue, nausea and dizziness. Higher concentrations cause damage to the lungs, liver, kidney or central nervous system. Some volatile organic compounds are thought to cause cancer.

In the test, analysis, measurement and evaluation studies carried out in our organization, national and international standards and applicable legal regulations are complied with and reliable and impartial results are obtained. VOC measurement services are among the numerous tests carried out in this context.
