ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements

ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements

The ISO 11612 standard, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), describes performance requirements for protective clothing made of flexible materials designed to protect the wearer's body, excluding hands, from heat or flame. In order to protect the head and feet of the user, protective clothing, leggings, hoods and boots are covered by this standard. However, this standard does not cover the visor and respiratory equipment requirements regarding headgear.

ISO 11612 Protective Clothing - Heat and Flame Protection Clothing - Minimum Performance Requirements

The performance requirements described in the ISO 11612 standard apply to protective clothing used for a wide variety of end needs where clothing with limited flame spread characteristics is required and where the wearer may be exposed to radiant or convective or contact heat or splashes of molten metal. The purpose of this standard is to provide minimum performance requirements for such garments.

Many of the hazards listed in this standard have three performance levels:

  • Level 1 to indicate low risk exposure
  • Level 2 to indicate medium risk exposure
  • Level 3 to indicate high risk exposure

For protection against excessive exposure to radiant heat, a fourth performance level should be considered, involving high-performance materials such as aluminized and similar materials. The level of personal protection to be provided is based on the outcome of a risk assessment.

For full protection against exposure to heat or flame, it may be necessary to protect the head, face, hands and feet with appropriate personal protective equipment and in some cases appropriate respiratory protection may be required.

For the purposes of this standard, the term aging refers to the change in product performance over time during use or storage. Aging is caused by a combination of many factors. For example, cleaning, maintenance or disinfecting operations, exposure to visible or ultraviolet radiation, exposure to high or low temperatures or varying temperatures, exposure to chemicals and mechanical influences such as abrasion, flexing, pressure and strain.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services to determine the minimum performance requirements of clothing that provides protection against heat and flame, within the scope of ISO 11612 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment. .
