The legislation in question establishes a framework for determining eco-design requirements for energy-related products in order to ensure the free movement of such products in the internal market. This regulation describes the requirements that must be met in order to place energy-related products on the market under enforcement measures. This legal regulation contributes to sustainable development by increasing energy efficiency and environmental protection level, while at the same time increasing energy supply security. However, it does not cover the means of transporting people or goods.
This legal regulation and the implementation measures adopted accordingly do not touch the regulations on chemicals, including the regulations on waste management and fluorinated greenhouse gases in European Union countries.
For the purposes of this directive, the term energy-related product refers to any product placed on the market that has an impact on energy consumption during use. It also includes parts intended for inclusion in energy-related products within the scope of this directive, which are presented to the market as separate parts for end users and which independently assess environmental performance.
In short, the ERP directive aims to ensure the efficient use of the environment and resources, meet eco-design requirements, and label products for energy efficiency. Under this directive, testing of energy-related products for environmental, performance, and efficiency aspects is mandatory. Several product groups covered by this regulation include: light bulbs and fixtures, air conditioners, household washing machines, household dishwashers, computers and computer servers, external power supplies, water pumps, and electric motors.
