The “ IEC/TS EN 62208 Empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear assemblies – General requirements” standard , based on a European standard and subsequently published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) , describes a procedure for empty enclosures provided by the enclosure manufacturer before the assembly of switchgear components by the assembly manufacturer. This standard covers the general definitions, classifications, characteristics, and test requirements for enclosures intended for use as part of switchgear assemblies (e.g., in accordance with the product standard in the IEC 61439 series) with a nominal voltage not exceeding 1000 Volts AC or 1500 Volts DC and suitable for general use in both indoor and outdoor applications. Additional requirements may apply for specific applications. According to this standard, empty enclosures are suitable for the assembly of electrical components. This standard does not apply to enclosures covered by other specific product standards (e.g., IEC 60670-24). For final products manufactured using an empty housing, compliance with the safety requirements of the applicable product standard is the responsibility of the assembly manufacturer.

For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply:
Enclosures are classified according to:
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for enclosures are not applicable according to this standard. IEC 61000-5-7 standard applies for the degrees of protection provided by enclosures against electromagnetic disturbances (EM code).
The manufacturer's documentation shall include all relevant structural and mechanical characteristics, the enclosure classification and instructions for the correct handling, installation, connection and service conditions of the enclosure, as well as reference to this standard:
The data for thermal power dissipation capacity is a function of the allowable temperature inside the enclosure. It should be provided for the different installation methods of the enclosure (e.g. flush mounting, surface mounting) and the design of the enclosure (i.e. with or without ventilation openings and number of horizontal partitions). It should include at least the temperature rise inside the enclosure at the top and the temperature rise on the external surfaces for a given power loss inside the enclosure. This provides the user with accurate data for selecting the enclosure according to the electrical equipment to be installed. For calculation purposes, it is assumed that the heat generated by the selected equipment is uniformly distributed within the protected space.
The tests performed according to this standard are type tests. The tested enclosures shall be assembled and installed as in normal use in accordance with the enclosure manufacturer's instructions. Unless otherwise specified, the tests shall be performed at an ambient temperature between plus 10 degrees and plus 40 degrees. The table titled "Number of samples to be tested and the order of tests per sample" shows the number of samples to be tested and the order of tests per sample. Accordingly, the tests to be performed include:
Some of these tests are performed only on the sample, while some of the tests are valid only if confirmed by the test.
Our organization, which has been trying to support businesses from every sector with its testing, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies carried out in a wide range for years, has a strong staff that closely follows the developments in the world in the field of science and technology and constantly improves itself. In this context, testing services in accordance with the "IEC/TS EN 62208 Empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies - General requirements" standard are also provided to businesses.
