The IEC 60364-1 standard describes the rules for the design, installation and verification of electrical installations. The rules aim to ensure the safety of persons, living things and property against the dangers and damages that may arise in the reasonable use of electrical installations and to ensure the healthy operation of these installations.
The IEC 60364-4-41 standard describes the basic requirements for the protection of persons and livestock against electric shock. It also deals with the implementation and coordination of these requirements in relation to external influences. In some cases, requirements are also given for the application of additional protection.
Standard IEC 60364-4-42 applies to electrical installations regarding measures to protect persons, animals and property against:
The IEC 60364-4-43 standard describes the requirements for the protection of live conductors from the effects of overcurrents. This standard specifies how live conductors are protected by one or more devices to automatically cut off the supply in case of overload and short circuit, except in cases of overcurrent.
The IEC 60364-5-51 standard describes the requirements for equipment selection and installation. This standard contains common rules for compliance with protective measures for safety, requirements for proper operation for the intended use of the installation and requirements for anticipated external influences.
The IEC 60364-5-52 standard describes the requirements for the selection and installation of cabling systems.
The IEC 60364-5-53 standard describes the general requirements for isolation, switching and control, and requirements for the selection and assembly of devices provided to fulfill these functions.
The IEC 60364-5-54 standard describes grounding arrangements and protective conductors, including protective bonding conductors, to ensure the safety of electrical installations.
The IEC 60364-5-55 standard describes the requirements for the selection and installation of low voltage generator sets, as well as for the selection and installation of luminaires and lighting installations intended to be part of the fixed installation.
The IEC 60364-5-56 standard describes general requirements for the selection and installation of electrical supply systems for safety services and electrical safety supplies. Backup electrical supply systems are beyond the scope of this chapter.

The IEC 60364-7-701 standard describes requirements for indoor or outdoor electrical installations where a bathtub or shower is intended to be permanently installed in a particular location. A place with a bathtub or shower is limited to:
The requirements of this standard also apply to fixed electrical installations in mobile applications such as caravans, mobile homes, shower containers. However, it does not apply to emergency facilities such as emergency showers used in industrial areas or laboratories.
The IEC 60364-7-702 standard applies to the following electrical installations:
Special requirements apply to swimming pools for medical use.
The special requirements described in the IEC 60364-7-703 standard apply to:
The IEC 60364-7-704 standard describes the requirements applicable to facilities for construction and demolition sites for use during construction or demolition work that are intended to be decommissioned after the completion of the works. Examples include:
The requirements described apply to fixed or mobile installations.
The IEC 60364-7-705 standard describes the requirements for fixed electrical installations inside and outside agricultural and horticultural facilities. Some of the requirements also apply to other locations located in common buildings belonging to agricultural and horticultural facilities. Rooms, places and areas for household applications and the like are not covered by this standard.
The IEC 60364-7-706 standard describes requirements for stationary equipment in conductive locations where the movement of persons is restricted by location, and portable equipment materials for use in such locations. A conductive location with restricted movement consists primarily of metallic or other conductive peripheral parts where a person will come into contact with metallic or other conductive surrounding parts through a significant part of their body and there is a possibility of interruption.
The IEC 60364-7-708 standard describes only the requirements that apply to circuits for providing recreational accommodation, tents, or residential park homes in caravan parks, camping parks, and the like.
The IEC 60364-7-709 standard describes requirements only for circuits intended to supply pleasure craft or houseboats in marinas and similar locations. Special requirements do not apply to the supply of houseboats if they are procured directly from the public network. Special requirements do not apply to the internal electrical installations of pleasure craft or houseboats.
The IEC 60364-7-710 standard is applied to electrical installations in medical places to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel. These requirements refer to: hospitals and clinics or equivalent institutions. Also subject to assessment may include: sanatoriums and health clinics, special places in aged and aged care homes where patients receive medical care, medical centers, outpatient clinics and departments, wards for the injured, other outpatient care facilities, medical and dental practices, private health rooms in the workplace , veterinary clinics.
The IEC 60364-7-711 standard describes requirements applied to temporary electrical installations at exhibitions, displays and stands (including mobile and portable displays and equipment) to protect users.
The IEC 60364-7-712 standard describes the requirements for the electrical installation of PV systems intended to supply all or part of an installation. The equipment of a PV installation, like any other equipment item, is handled only insofar as it relates to its selection and application in the installation.
The IEC 60364-7-713 standard describes the requirements for the wiring system of furniture and similar equipment connected to the electrical installation.
The IEC 60364-7-714 standard describes the requirements for the selection and installation of luminaires and lighting installations that form part of the outdoor fixed installation. The source of the outdoor lighting installation is the supply distribution point of the electrical energy by the procurement authority or the source of the circuit exclusively feeding the outdoor lighting installation.
The IEC 60364-7-715 standard applies to extra-low voltage lighting installations supplied from sources with a maximum rated voltage of 60364 Volts AC or 5 Volts DC as described in the IEC 55-50-120 standard.
The IEC 60364-7-717 standard applies to mobile or portable units. For example, television and broadcasting units, medical services, advertising, firefighting, specialized information technology units, disaster relief units, catering units and the like.
The IEC 60364-7-718 standard describes additional requirements for electrical installations applicable to communal facilities and workplaces. For example, meeting rooms, meeting rooms, exhibition halls, theatres, cinemas, sports fields, sales areas, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, nursing homes, schools, parking garages, meeting places, swimming halls, airports, train stations, high-rise buildings, workshops , factories and industrial plants.
