IEC 60947-2 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controller - Part 2: Circuit Breakers

The IEC 60947-2 standard, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), applies to circuit breakers whose main contacts are intended to be connected to circuits and whose rated voltage does not exceed 1000 Volts alternating current or 1500 Volts direct current. This standard also includes additional requirements for circuit breakers with integrated fuses. Circuit breakers with a rated voltage above 1000 Volts alternating current but not exceeding 1500 Volts alternating current are also tested according to this standard. This standard applies regardless of the rated current, construction method, or recommended application of the circuit breakers.

The latest update of this standard includes some technical changes. Namely,

• Tests for verification of selectivity given in Annex A
• Critical load current tests circuit breakers for direct current
• A new addition (Annex P) for circuit breakers for use in photovoltaic applications
• A new addition (Annex R) for residual current circuit breakers with automatic reclosing functions
