EN IEC 60947-7-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers - Part 7-1: Auxiliary Equipment - Terminals for Copper Conductors

The EN IEC 60947-7-1 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defines the requirements for screw or screwless type clamping unit terminal blocks intended mainly for industrial or similar use and intended to be fixed to a support to provide electrical and mechanical connection between copper conductors.

EN IEC 60947-7-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers - Part 7-1: Auxiliary Equipment - Terminals for Copper Conductors

Standard EN IEC 60947-7-1, rated voltage up to 0,2 Volt alternating current or 2 300 Hz or 2 1000 Volt direct current, intended for connecting round copper conductors with a cross section of 1 mm000 to 1 mm500, with or without special preparation It is applied to the terminals intended to be used in circuits with

This standard is used as a guide for:

  • Terminal blocks that require special devices to be fixed to conductors. For example quick connection terminations or wrapped connections.
  • Terminal blocks that make direct contact with conductors via edges or points penetrating the insulation. For example, insulation displacement connections.
  • Special type terminals. For example diodes.

Where this standard is applied, the concept of docking unit is used instead of the term terminal. This is taken into account in case of reference to the IEC 60947-1 standard.

The following technical changes have been made in the last update of this standard:

  • It has been added to the scope of this standard that it can be used, for example, as a guide for special type terminal blocks with diodes or similar component holders.
  • Conventional free air thermal flow has been added to the list of information specified by the manufacturer.
  • Failed single test and failed test results were added within the specified test sequences.

The test methods offered in the EN IEC 60947-7-1 standard are:

  • Verification of mechanical properties
  • Verification of electrical properties (verification of gaps and leakage distances, dielectric tests, verification of voltage drop, temperature rise test, short-time withstand current test, aging test)
  • Verification of thermal properties
  • Verification of EMC properties (immunity, emission)

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer terminal testing services for copper conductors within low-voltage switchgear and control systems, in accordance with the EN IEC 60947-7-1 standard, thanks to our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
