The IEC 60811-505 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defines the procedure for performing low temperature elongation tests on extruded insulations and sheaths. The IEC 60811-505 standard has replaced the withdrawn IEC 60811-1-4 standard. All details about this change are in the IEC 60811-100 standard (Annex A). In this respect, IEC 60811-505 and IEC 60811-100 standards should be considered together.

Essentially, this standard defines two test methods:
In general, the IEC 60811 series of standards describes the test methods applied to test non-metallic materials of all types of cables. These test methods are intended to be referenced in standards for cable construction and cable materials. Non-metallic materials are typically used for insulation, sheathing, bedding, padding or taping inside cables.
These test methods are considered fundamental and have been used for many years primarily for materials in all power cables. It has also been widely adopted and used for other cables, especially fiber optic cables, communication and control cables, and cables for ships and offshore applications.
In tensile strength and elongation tests, the suitability of cable insulation and sheath materials is evaluated. These tests are performed not only on manufactured material samples but also after high-temperature conditioning to simulate several years of use. To ensure the materials do not crack during installation and normal use, these tests are also conducted to check that the cables can withstand bending and elongation and impact at low temperatures.
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it has given for businesses in various sectors, our organization, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the scope of IEC 60811-505 standard, mechanical tests for non-metallic electrical and fiber optic cables, insulations and sheaths. It also provides low temperature elongation testing services for
