IEC 61058 Switches for Devices

IEC 61058 Switches for Devices

The IEC 61058 standard, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), consists of the following subsections under the main title "Switches for Devices":

IEC 61058 Switches for Devices

  • IEC 61058-1 Part 1: General requirements
  • IEC 61058-1-1 Part 1-1: Requirements for mechanical switches
  • IEC 61058-1-2 Part 1-2: Requirements for electronic keys
  • IEC 61058-2-1 Part 2-1: Special requirements for wired switches
  • IEC 61058-2-4 Part 2-4: Special requirements for independently mounted switches
  • IEC 61058-2-5 Part 2-5: Special requirements for inverter selectors
  • IEC 61058-2-6 Part 2-6: Special requirements for switches used in electric motor driven hand tools, portable tools and lawn and garden machines

The IEC 61058-1 standard describes the general requirements for switches used in devices. The switches are designed to control electrical appliances and other equipment for household or similar purposes with a rated voltage not exceeding 480 Volts and a rated current not exceeding 63 Amperes. The latest update of this standard includes these important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • The requirements for mechanical switches are now IEC 61058-1-1 is included in the standard
  • Requirements for electronic switches are now contained in the IEC 61058-1-2 standard

The IEC 61058-1-1 standard applies to mechanical switching devices and should be used in conjunction with the general requirements described in the IEC 61058-1 standard.

The IEC 61058-1-2 standard applies to electronic switching devices and should be used in conjunction with the general requirements described in the IEC 61058-1 standard.

For devices operated by hand, foot or other human activities to operate or control electrical appliances and other equipment for household or similar purposes, with a rated voltage not exceeding 61058 Volts and a rated current not exceeding 2 Amps, in IEC 1-250-16 standard The requirements for cable switches (mechanical or electronic) are described. The latest update of this standard includes the general format to support the IEC 61058-1, IEC 61058-1-1 and IEC 61058-1-2 standards and heating tests.

In the IEC 61058-2-4 standard, with a rated voltage not exceeding 480 Volts and a rated current not exceeding 63 Amperes, by hand, foot or other human activity to operate or control electrical appliances and other devices with a rated voltage for household or similar purposes. The requirements for independently mounted switches for operated devices (mechanical or electronic) are described. This standard is used in conjunction with the IEC 61058-1 standard.

Transition for devices operated by hand, foot or other human activities to operate or control electrical appliances and other equipment for household or similar purposes with a rated voltage not exceeding 61058 Volts and a rated current not exceeding 2 Amperes in IEC 5-480-63 standard The requirements for selectors (mechanical or electronic) are explained. The last update of this standard includes changes in the conduct of the heating test due to changes in the IEC 61058-1 standard.

The IEC 61058-2-6 standard is a subset based on the IEC 61058-1 standard, and the items outlined below are intended for specific requirements for switches included in or integrated with electric motor-driven hand tools, portable tools, and lawn and garden machines. This standard is prepared for switches with ambient temperatures up to (inclusive) 55 degrees. Switches tested according to the IEC 61058-1 standard are deemed to comply with this standard and no additional testing is required provided the ratings, loads and durability are correct.

Our organization also provides testing services for switches used in various devices within the scope of IEC 61058 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
