IEC 61000-6-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: General Standards - Immunity Standard for Industrial Environments

IEC 61000-6-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: General Standards - Immunity Standard for Industrial Environments

The IEC 61000-6-2 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) defines electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity requirements for electrical and electronic equipment intended for use in industrial locations.

IEC 61000-6-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) - Part 6-2: General Standards - Immunity Standard for Industrial Environments

With this standard, immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are met. At frequencies where no requirements are specified, testing is not considered necessary.

This general electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity standard applies if the EMC immunity standard is not available for the particular product.

The following major changes have been made in the last update of this standard:

  • Environmental identification has been improved.
  • According to the IEC 61000-4-3 standard, the frequency range has been extended for radio frequency electromagnetic field testing.
  • In accordance with the IEC 61000-4-3 standard, modified test levels at certain frequencies have been introduced for radio frequency electromagnetic field testing.
  • The repeat frequency has been changed for fast pass immunity test according to IEC 61000-4-4 standard.
  • Requirements have been introduced according to the IEC 61000-4-34 standard.
  • Test levels have been revised.
  • Measurement uncertainty has been taken into account.
  • An informative guide for product committees has been added.

The IEC 61000-6-2 standard is applied to electrical and electronic equipment intended to be operated both indoors and outdoors in industrial areas.

This standard also applies to equipment intended for industrial use, either battery operated or intended to be connected directly to a direct current distribution network.

This standard contains requirements for immunity testing regarding permanent and temporary, conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges. Immunity requirements have been established to provide adequate immunity for equipment operating in industrial locations. However, these levels do not cover extreme situations that occur anywhere but have an extremely low probability of occurring.

Not all deterioration events are included in the IEC 61000-6-2 standard for testing purposes. Only those deemed relevant to the equipment covered by this standard are included. These test requirements represent basic electromagnetic compatibility immunity requirements. Safety aspects are not covered by this standard.

Our organization also provides immunity testing services for industrial environments within the scope of IEC 61000-6-2 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors.
