The IEC 62262 standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) describes the classification of the degrees of protection provided by enclosures against external mechanical impacts when the rated voltage of the protected equipment is not greater than 72,5 kVolts. The full name of this standard is: IEC 62262 Degrees of protection provided by electrical equipment enclosures against external mechanical impacts (IK code). This standard only applies to equipment enclosures where the specific standard specifies the degree of protection of the enclosure against mechanical impact.

According to the standard in question, IK codes are expressed on a scale from 00 to 10 from low to high and begin with IK. Each digit of the IK code indicates a specific energy level that affects the enclosure without impairing functions or dust/water protection.
The international standard IEC 62262 is based on the following European standard with the same content: EN 50102 Degrees of protection (IK code) provided by electrical equipment enclosures against external mechanical impacts.
The EN 50102 standard includes the classification of the degrees of protection provided by enclosures against external mechanical impacts when the rated voltage of the protected equipment is not greater than 72,5 kV.
The IEC 62262 standard is also based on the standard published by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN): DIN EN 60529 VDE 0470-1 Degrees of protection (IP code) provided by the enclosures. The IP code defined in this standard indicates the level of protection a device such as an electronic key receives from its enclosure.
It is possible to specify a lower IP protection category with a higher IK code. Conversely, if the IP protection category is broken for this reason, specifying a high IK code is not allowed.
In the IEC 62262 standard, the impact test specifications for the 06 IK code are determined as follows:
Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for the degrees of protection provided by electrical equipment enclosures against IK-06 external mechanical impacts, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
