ETSI EN 300 440 Short Range Devices (SRD) - Radio Equipment for Use in the Frequency Range from 1 GHz to 40 GHz - Harmonized Standard Covering the Essential Requirements of Article 2014 of Directive 53/3.2/EU

ETSI EN 300 440 Short Range Devices (SRD) - Radio Equipment for Use in the Frequency Range from 1 GHz to 40 GHz - Harmonized Standard Covering the Essential Requirements of Article 2014 of Directive 53/3.2/EU

The ETSI EN 300 440 standard, developed by the European Telecommunication Standards Committee (ETSI), describes the technical specifications and measurement methods for the following equipment types:

ETSI EN 300 440 Short Range Devices (SRD) - Radio Equipment for Use in the Frequency Range from 1 GHz to 40 GHz - Harmonized Standard Covering the Essential Requirements of Article 2014 of Directive 53/3.2/EU

  • Non-specific short range devices including alarms, telecommand, telemetry, data transmission in general, and the like
  • Radio frequency identification (RFID) devices
  • Radio detection devices with sensing, motion and warning applications

These types of radio equipment can operate in the permitted frequency bands in the 1 GHz to 40 GHz range as specified in the table given in the standard, with a radio frequency output link and a dedicated antenna or integrated antenna.

The table in question contains a list of frequency bands known at the time of publication of this standard, with the decisions of the European Commission on short range devices and the recommendation of the European Post and Telecommunications Conference (CEPT) / European Research Council (ERC).

Short-range devices are radio devices that, because they generally transmit power and therefore have a low range, offer a low risk of interference with other radio services. The definition of short-range device can be applied to many different types of wireless equipment, including in various forms: access control, alarms and motion detectors, closed-circuit television, wireless audio devices including wireless microphones, industrial control, local area networks, medical implants, measuring instruments, remote control, and radio frequency identification (RFID). These devices generally benefit from a lenient regulatory regime compared to other radio communication devices. As a general principle, a user is license-free to operate such equipment. However, like all radio devices, short-range devices must comply with the radio devices directive to be placed on the market in European Union countries. The operation of the equipment is subject to the frequency management regulations of the respective Member State.

Among the numerous tests, measurements, analyses, and evaluations our organization provides for businesses in various sectors, we also offer radio equipment testing services for short-range devices operating in the 1 GHz to 40 GHz frequency range, in accordance with the ETSI EN 300 440 standard, thanks to our trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
