IEC 62052 Electrical Measuring Equipment (AC) - General Requirements, Tests and Test Conditions

IEC 62052 Electrical Measuring Equipment (AC) - General Requirements, Tests and Test Conditions

The IEC 62052 standard, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), consists of the following subsections under the main title "Electrical measuring equipment (AC) - General requirements, tests and test conditions":

IEC 62052 Electrical Measuring Equipment (AC) - General Requirements, Tests and Test Conditions

  • IEC 62052-11 Part 11: Measuring equipment
  • IEC 62052-21 Part 21: Tariff and load control equipment
  • IEC 62052-31 Part 31: Product safety requirements and tests

In the IEC 62052-11 standard, suitable conditions and requirements for type testing of AC and DC electricity meters and related test methods are defined. This standard describes in detail the functional, mechanical, electrical and marking requirements, test methods and test conditions, including immunity to external influences covering electromagnetic and climatic environments. This standard applies to electrical measuring equipment designed for:

  • Measuring equipment used to measure and control electrical energy in electrical networks with voltages up to 1000 Volts AC or 1500 Volts DC
  • Measuring equipment with all functional elements enclosed or forming a single meter case, including additional modules, excluding display screens
  • Measuring equipment (electromechanical or static meters) working with integrated indicators
  • Measuring equipment operated with or without dedicated display screens (static meters only)
  • Measuring equipment installed in specified matching sockets or racks
  • Optionally, measuring equipment providing additional functions other than electrical energy measurement

This document also applies to auxiliary input and output circuits, operating indicators and test outputs of equipment for electrical energy measurement. This standard also covers common aspects of accuracy testing such as reference conditions, repeatability and uncertainty measurement.

This standard does not apply to:

  • Meters where the line-neutral voltage obtained from the rated voltages exceeds 1000 Volts AC or 1500 Volts DC
  • Meters intended for connection with low-power instrument transformers when tested without such transformers
  • Measurement systems consisting of more than one device physically distant from each other
  • Portable counters
  • Counters used in wagons, vehicles, ships and aircraft
  • Laboratory and meter testing equipment
  • Reference standard counters
  • Compatible sockets or racks used for the installation of electrical measuring equipment

The IEC 62052-21 standard describes general requirements for type testing of newly manufactured indoor tariff and load control equipment, such as electronic surge control receivers and time switches used to control electrical loads, multi-tariff registers and multi-tariff registers and maximum demand indicating devices. This standard describes the general requirements for type testing of newly manufactured indoor tariff and load control equipment, such as electronic surge control receivers and time switches, multi-tariff registers and maximum demand indicating devices used to control electrical loads. This standard does not place any requirements for the structural details included in the tariff and load control equipment. In the case of integrating the tariff and load control function into the multifunctional electrical measuring equipment, the relevant parts of the IEC 62052 standard are applied. This standard does not cover acceptance tests and conformity tests. The safety aspect is covered by the IEC 62052-31 standard.

The IEC 62052-31 standard describes product safety requirements for equipment for electrical energy measurement and control. This standard applies to newly manufactured measuring equipment designed to measure and control electrical energy in 600 Hz or 50 Hz networks with voltages up to 60 Volts, in which all functional elements, including additional modules, are enclosed or formed in a single enclosure. When such equipment is designed for installation in a specific compatible socket, requirements apply to equipment installed in the specified matching socket and tests are performed on that equipment. However, the requirements for sockets and the installation/removal of meters from sockets are beyond the scope of this standard. This standard also applies to auxiliary input and output circuits. Briefly, the purpose of this standard is to describe product safety requirements for equipment for electrical energy measurement and control.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides testing services for the general requirements of electrical measurement equipment (AC) within the scope of the IEC 62052 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
